What a bias classification is
United One News aggregates reporting from outlets across the UK and India. Each outlet gets a left, centre-left, centre, centre-right or right classification from one of two sources: a curated reference list built from published outlet-bias research and ownership records, or — for an outlet not yet on that list — an AI model that classifies it from its name and domain. A bias bar shows the distribution of coverage across those classifications for a given story — a statement about who is covering it, and how much, not a statement about what is true, and not a claim about any outlet's character or intent.
AI-estimated classifications
Where an outlet's classification came from the AI model rather than the curated list, we label it "AI-estimated" wherever the outlet's leaning is shown, including on pages built for search engines and AI assistants. An AI-estimated classification carries more uncertainty than a curated one and is exactly the kind of label most likely to need a correction — see "Disputing a classification" below.
What a classification is not
A classification is not an accusation. We do not describe an outlet as "biased," and we do not import a US-style left/right political framework into how UK or India outlets are described. Where relevant, we aim to disclose an outlet's ownership and funding rather than characterise its editorial intent. A classification is also not re-reviewed on a fixed schedule — once set, it stands until it is disputed and corrected, or an outlet's ownership changes materially and we update it.
Disputing a classification
An outlet may contest its classification via the in-app complaints form, our Corrections page, or grievance@unitedonenews.com. Disputes are the main way a classification gets a fresh look, so please raise one rather than assuming an odd-looking label will be caught automatically.
AI-generated summaries
Story summaries and "AI Insights" are generated by AI models from published headlines and snippets only — never from your personal data. Every AI-generated summary is labelled as such in the app. Summaries are best-effort and may contain errors; use "Report inaccuracy" on any summary to flag one.
Original reporting
Alongside aggregated coverage, registered Reporters publish original stories through the app. Original reports are marked as such and go through the same visibility, takedown, and correction mechanisms as aggregated content.
